FW2013 - Fall/Winter Wardrobe 2013 - Outerwear

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year in terms of fashion. During the summer you can usually find me in a tank top and shorts and even then I'm sweating buckets. Not sexy lol. I can get a little more creative during the fall time with layering and mixing and matching different prints. There's just so much you can do because you're wearing more clothes! In the next few weeks, I'll be going over some trends and some classics that you can add to your wardrobe this fall/winter season. I'm going to start out this series with outerwear.

"Leather" Jacket
Don't really need to buy the real thing but a faux leather jacket should do the trick. There's a bunch at Forever 21 that are really affordable and very little commitment for those of us who like are like chameleons with our moods. Some days I like the channel my inner biker chick. For those days I prefer a moto look.

They also have this denim camo colored one with faux leather details. Gives it more a a race car driver feel.

If you're looking for something possibly of higher quality, I found this one in the Savvy section at Nordstrom.com.

blanknyc - litter jacket - $98.00 [product code: 900691]

If you prefer all "leather", here's one from the same company, BLANKNYC. This one actually has way better ratings than the other one BUT it'll probably be harder to find since there's only 1 size left :(.

Varsity Jacket
Even though I'm no longer in school, I really love the look of the varsity jacket. Plus I always wanted to wear my "boyfriend's" letterman's jacket lol and I sucked at all sports so there was no way I could get one for myself lol. Guess this is the closest I'll get to wearing one ;). Jenn Im of Clothes Encounters also showcased a similar jacket in her "Favorite Fall Jackets" video which if you don't watch her already, go and subscribe. Her style is eclectic and definitely not everyone's cup of tea but it's inspiration for the rest of us to step out of the box once in awhile.

Bomber Jacket
Even though I love Fall/Winter fashion, one thing I hate about the winter time is how cold it gets! Bomber jackets are a great way to keep warm (especially the ones that are lined and poofed up)! Bomber jackets have definitely been getting trendier. I found this little gem on the Forever 21 website. Definitely looks like something I could find a J. Crew but for a lot less. I'm not sure how the materials are but the geo print makes it look very chic. It also got pretty high ratings so I would feel better about purchasing it online (which I usually don't because I have super sensitive skin and I'd probably itch myself to death lol).

Want to go for a more tough look? Another Forever 21 find was this Quilted Bomber Jacket. It has little studs all over which toughens the look and it's a great way to jump on the "stud" band wagon without looking like you went crazy with a bedazzler (I put the link there for those too young to remember those infomercials! I wanted one so bad lol).

If you're looking for a casual bomber jacket you can just grab and go, I found this Topshop one at Nordstrom. I love the hoodie attached to the bomber. I actually bought a similar one from Forever 21 last year and I don't think they it anymore. The one I bought has fleece sleeves and it's soooooo warm. I absolutely love it.

Tweed Jacket
Whenever I wear tweed I feel like I'm channeling my inner Coco Chanel. I feel like tweed just makes you look a little more put together. Add a white chiffon shirt under this tweed looking jacket with some slacks and you can easily elevate this "teen" look to "successful business woman" look lol. I like the fact that the shoulders aren't too structured so it'll look more fitted to you rather than the look of shoulder pads. The look of this jacket just makes it super versatile so it's a great piece to add to any wardrobe.

ae varsity zip cardigan - $59.99 [style1340-6267]

Structured Coat
All of the jackets I've talked about before are more casual. If you're looking for something more professional, a structured coat is the way to go. My first thought when I saw this coat was "Kim Kardashian". I feel like it's something she would wear (or has worn).

belted broad collar coat - $47.80 [product code: 2027706027]

If you'd prefer a darker coat, I'd get one with a little print so that it doesn't look like you're just wearing a trash bag.

kenneth cole new york collarless animal jacquard jacket - $148.00 [product code: 919128]

Trench Coat
This one is pretty much a classic but being a pretty petite girl (height of 5 feet), it's extremely hard to find a trench that doesn't overwhelm your entire body. Looking at this particular one from Sam Edelman, it looks like it sits fairly high on the model so I'm assuming it'll be around my knees lol. I like the piping around the arms and just the details all around.

Have you purchased a coat recently that you love? Share them below! I'd love to take a look at what everyone has been purchasing for their fall/winter wardrobes!

August 2013: Month in Review

A couple months behind on the Month in Reviews so I thought I'd start off my current day off by catching up. First, I wanted to elaborate on the lack of quality posts lately. The last couple weeks have been a tough one on me not only physically but also mentally. Computer systems went down at work during the first week of October and the first of the month is already crazy enough without computer problems so it only exacerbated the workload. My car got broken into outside our apartment complex late September and they shattered my driver's side window to steal my "not-even-worth-it" stereo. Here's a preview of what I walked out to that morning:

I never knew how violating it could feel to have someone rummage through your car. After that, it got me thinking that San Diego was actually rejecting me, that maybe I didn't fit in here. I had been here for an entire year now and I didn't feel like I had a home anywhere. LA was no longer my home and San Diego didn't quite feel like "home" yet either. It was a thought that mentally drained me because I had left so much of myself behind in LA: friends, family, FOOD. But sometimes you need to hit rock bottom before you can rise up again. After this past weekend and the events that transpired, I feel like a phoenix that has risen once again with renewed energy and hope. A good friend said to me the other day, "Anything worth having you have to fight for" and I believe it 100%. I've had to fight for everything I've gotten all my life: for a spot in college, for a spot in pharmacy school, for a job... and let me just say, #wewontstop #wecantstop (LOL I couldn't help it, I had to). On that positive note, let's dive right into August Month in Review!!

Aug. 1st-2nd: Work
After work on Friday we decided to try out Spicy City. It was pretty tasty but not as spicy as we thought since the reviews on Yelp had insinuated that our mouths would be burning.

dan dan noodles

cumin lamb

string beans

Aug. 3rd-6th: Work
I had Tuesday off and didn't really have any plans so decided to head to the dog beach in Ocean Beach for the first time with Brandi and Bentley. First we got our acai bowls from Pirates Cove Tiki Port. Yumes!

my half eaten acai bowl

Aug. 7th-9th: Work
Friday night we headed out to dinner for Donna's birthday at Bankers Hill Bar and Restaurant.

all the ladies

Aug. 10th: Brandy Melville Sale and Jessie Ware Concert
Headed up to Orange County for the Brandy Melville sale. We were literally one of the last people in line and were 2nd from the cut off of them letting people in. I found out later that they had a 2nd sale and they had tons of stuff left! Arggggg!

sale was from 10-4pm. this was the line at around 2:30p.

Later that evening we had the pleasure of seeing Jessie Ware for the 2nd time (our first being the time at Coachella). More from that concert here.

Aug. 11th:
Drove back late Saturday night and then headed out for lunch for Brandon's going away party. We went to Miguel's Cocina. Gotta love my bloody marys!

Aug. 12th-14th: Work

Aug. 15th:
I was checking out the most highly rated places on Yelp and one of them happened to be the Carnitas Snack Shack. Brandon wanted some Mexican food before he left so we headed out for another celebratory dinner. Like I've said previously, ratings for San Diego restaurants are definitely skewed towards the high side. I would say the only thing worth getting at this place is the pork belly. Seriously the best pork belly I've ever had! They do have a different menu daily so maybe that night just wasn't their best. Definitely a must try for the pork belly.

pork belly (a must have!!!)

Aug. 16th-19th: Work
After work on the 18th we decided to try out a new restaurant in Convoy, Fu An Garden. It's supposed to have spicy food also. The tofu dish we got below was super good. Dan dan noodles were also pretty good. Their menu also has pictures lol always a plus.

Aug. 20th:
Went to Ulta to have my hairs cut. Came out with Azn bangs lol. It was a last minute impulsive decision.

Aug. 21st-23rd: Work
For dinner on the 22nd, we went back to Urban Plates in Del Mar.

On Friday, the 23rd, we went to a friend's house to celebrate one of the baby's 1st birthdays. After that we met up with my cousin and her boyfriend and headed out to Live Wire, a dive bar. Some drinks later, we headed back to the apartment to hookah. But not before we picked up some Mexican drive-thru food to grub on. Here's us in the back seat of my cousin's car with her child lol.

Aug. 24th-25th:
On Saturday night we went to eat at Elephant Bar. My cousin works for corporate Elephant Bar and it was crazy what amazing service we got when she flashed her badge lol. She wasn't going to but one of the managers recognized her because they actually filmed a commercial or menus at that specific location before. I don't think the food at Elephant Bar has ever tasted so good!

Aug. 25th:
Went to Ikea and saw this dino puppet. I had to have a picture! Ended up getting the Alex drawers below.

Aug. 26th-30th: Work

Aug. 31st:
One of my interns was moving away for rotations. We had some fun at Dave and Busters. Pharmers for life!

So excite! *in Borat accent*

The first of many events happening in the next 3 months has passed and I'm getting more and more excited for the events to come! Our schedules are going to be crazy for the next few weeks up until December. I'll be heading to Hawaii in a few weeks just to veg out and get some quality r&r. After coming back from Hawaii, I'll be attending wedding 2 of 3. Then it's a Bachelorette Party for my sister from another mother. Then it's her bridal shower. After that is my birthday celebration and Drake concert. And to finish the year off is wedding 3 or 3.

For my Hawaii trip, I'll be on Oahu from 5 days, 4 nights. We'll be staying at Aulani one of the nights and in Waikiki for the other nights. We're hoping to get a few hikes in but if anyone has any suggestions on things to do on Oahu, please let me know! I've been trying to gather a list from various friends of things to do and places to eat. Mostly places to eat lol :P. My friend wants to try the Koko Head and Pill Box Hike. I'm scared for the Koko Head one :/. Again, leave comments below of places you guys recommend! Working on a ton of posts and will try to get them out ASAP! Love and miss you all! Toodles! (for now).
