May 2013: Month in Review Part 1

May 1st-2nd: Work. On the first I worked in the morning and then we headed out to Tio Leo's for Brandon's birthday.

May 3rd: Worked in the morning on the 3rd and then we drove to LA that night to celebrate my friend being done with his dissertation defense.

May 4th: Started the day off with breakfast with the bestie at The Original Pantry Cafe. Bacon and potatoes were bomb. I also followed the advice of fellow Yelpers and got their salsa (they actually bring it to you without you even having to ask). Kind of reminiscent of Denny's but better (if you couldn't tell by he gynormous bacon pieces). The pancake was ok; nothing to write home about. Definitely large portions so you can share and try different items. There's paid parking right across the street or street parking which was plentiful on Saturday when we went. There's a consistent line but it goes pretty quickly.

After lunch, we headed to the LA Grand Park which they had built to kind of emulate Central Park in New York. We had a little fun trying to do some hadouken poses (which is in my 24 hrs in La La Land post) but they are definitely not as good as the ones from the Japanese. How they jump so high is beyond me.

twas an extremely beautiful day in LA

two big kids playing at the park; leave it to judy to make a face lol :P

It was the first time I had been back at my parent's house in a long time and I got a little homesick. I took this picture of my homemade bulletin board. It's a bunch of stuff that really brightens my mood.

May 5th: Had a lazy Sunday back in San Diego. It actually started drizzling by the end of the day so we ended up going to tofu house. Cheap food and great for the cold weather. When will they open a BCD Tofu House in San Diego *cries* lol.

May 6th-9th: Work

On the 8th we went on our first of many dinner dates to the movies since there are so many super good movies coming out. Started off the evening with Happy Hour at Islands and then we went to see Iron Man 3. I actually really liked the movie but apparently it was "ok" to other people? Whatevs lol.

May 10th: Channel 933 Summer Kick-Off
You can read more about that here. Before the concert we went to Tiger! Tiger! to grab some grub. Cheap beers and the food was pretty yummies.

sorry for the half-eaten-ness of the picture but we were starvels!

May 11th-12th: Had the weekend off. Still felt like my stomach was full of booze from the night before so started off the morning with the good ole pho cure. Then we went and did a bit of grocery shopping. After that, I had been wanting to go to Brandy Melville so finally Tony and I ventured to Pacific Beach to go to the store there. Apparently the ones in LA always have a line? This store is pretty huge and no lines. Another plus is that it's right next to Urban Outfitters and there's a parking lot so no street parking needed (it is kind of small though so you may need to park on the street if the lot is full). You can see my Brandy Melville/Urban Outfitters Haul here

things I find at the grocery store :)

On Sunday the 12th we celebrated Mother's Day with Tony's family first by going to a buffet and then going to Tony's grandmother's house. Between the two events we went to Infini Tea for some boba. I had seen a classmate of mine from pharmacy school posting a drink from this place that looked like Half and Half so I had to go try it out. Not too overpriced like how some boba places can be in San Diego and their caramel, pudding, honey boba milk tea drink is a good substitute for Half and Half. My only suggest to them is to get a sealing machine for their drinks. It's pretty hard to mix their drink when the lid can come off and you can't just flip the drink upside down to fully mix it.

i love pudding!

That's it for now guys! Part 2 should be coming soon! Happy Hump Day!

Debt Free by 33: The Queen of Versailles

One of the major contributing factors to debt is people spending above their means. With credit cards readily available, it is much easier to just charge everything in hopes of paying it later when your paycheck comes in. That usually leads to living paycheck to paycheck, and not saving enough for the future. For those that spend more than their paycheck, there is the unfortunate interest charge and then you are essentially paying for nothing. In the beginning you may be freaked out that you can't keep up with your payments but then, you start paying just the minimum monthly payment since the total amount owed begins to grow to an overwhelming level. One of the more overwhelming thoughts is that you now owe more in interest to the credit card company than you had originally used for whatever it was that you bought. You might as well just hand over a few bills to your closest bum. Now was that purchase worth it? You tell me.

A few days ago one of the radio personalities here in San Diego was talking about this documentary called "The Queen of Versailles". He was saying how he couldn't stop watching it and recommended that people watch it. I am a lover of documentaries so we decided to watch it last night. I would highly recommend this documentary to everyone, especially those who are trying to get their finances straight. It is pretty motivational in that you get to see what happens when the American dream goes awry.

The next time you've got some time to kill, put this documentary on and watch this riches to rags story.

April 2013: Month in Review Part 2

Side note: I'm watching old episodes of Gilmore Girls while writing this post and I just love the dialogue between Lorelai and Rory. So witty! Anywhos, on with the post!

April 15th-18th: Worked every day. On the 17th, Tony and I went out to celebrate our 2 year anniversary (we didn't celebrate on the actual date since it coincides with someone else's big day). We went to one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego, Sushi Ota. Absolutely amazeballs! I have no qualms about ordering raw fish here because everything is so fresh (and so clean ;))

After work on the 18th I went to the pool for some vitamin D and reading. Really wanted to finish reading the last Hunger Games (which I finally finished and got super philosophical afterwards... I won't bored you with the details lol).

April 19th-22nd: Coachella Weekend 2

Here are some links to my posts on Coachella:

April 23rd-24th: Work

April 25th: Off. Was a vegetable.

April 26th: Work. After work on the 26th we went to try True Food Kitchen at Fashion Valley.

l to r: peacemaker (possibly? lol) and medicine man

shirataki noodles

grass fed bison burger

April 27th: After work we headed to Hillcrest to D Bar to meet up with friends.

mac 'n cheese and I added lobster
salmon salad (i think)

April 28th: Had Sunday off and was able to have some Korean BBQ with Tony's family. We went to get shave ice afterwards at Tea Garden and it was like Guppy House.

April 29th-30th: Work. We had do inventory of all the controlled substances in the pharmacy and luckily we were only there until a little over midnight. I worked in the morning and went back to the pharmacy for more fun lol. For dinner we went to one of my favorite casual Thai food restaurants EVER, Sab-E-Lee. This is the authentic stuff. My favorite thing to order is the papaya salad and I get in a spicy level 5. My mouth is seriously burning even at a spicy level 5. I like to mix it with rice to make it less spicy but still!

papaya salad (this picture honestly doesn't do it justice!)

some kind of beef soup

pad thai

And that's April for you! I know I'm super behind!
I was a bit out of sorts last month so I'm back into the swing of things now.
Until next time!

April 2013: Month in Review Part 1

April 1st-3rd: Work

April 4th: Had the day off so did a little beauty hauling and cleaned up my makeshift "vanity" area. I was using my Cricut box as a table but I had to keep all my make up in my closet so I decided to get a small shoe storage from Target so I could put all my make-up in one spot.

Here's the link to my post on my haul: Beauty Haul.

April 5th: Had work in the morning and then we decided to try out a new restaurant. My favorite Italian restaurant in LA is C&O's and I've been trying to find a place in San Diego to go to for Italian. We decided to go to Lorna's Italian Kitchen. Pizza was good and portions were pretty large. I had to try the tiramisu. It was interesting because instead of a layer of cocoa powder they had cinnamon. I wasn't a fan of the cinnamon topping but I did like the consistency of the rest of it.

April 6th-10th: Work

April 11th: Had the day off and I got a bunch of coupons from the last haul so I went hauling again. This time I mainly bought stuff to Coachella. Here's a post about my extreme couponing.

April 12th: Worked the morning and then went out to dinner at Crab Hut (which is like Boiling Crab) for Lan's birthday.

April 13th-14th: I was off for the weekend so we decided to make use of our San Diego Zoo passes by heading to the Wild Animal Park. I really wanted to go on the flying balloon thing but it was like $25! Why would I pay when I could ride the orange balloon in Irvine for free!

On Sunday we had dim sum at Imperial Mandarin with Tony's family and then went to this waffle/dessert place called Cafe Hue. Here's my outfit of the day.

After dim sum we went to Cafe Hue for dessert. Look at this waffle! This is just the plain waffle and it was so delish! I can't even imagine what the other waffles would taste like!

This is part 1. Still working on part 2!

Concert: chvrches

June 2nd, 2013
Chvrches at the Belly Up Tavern

It was my first time seeing chvrches and also my first time at the Belly Up Tavern. The venue was actually really good! Sound is actually pretty good compared to some of the larger venues I've been to (like when we saw Paramore in I think it was Fresno). They did have some issues but overall it was a great show. Absolutely fell in love with the band after the show. Their music falls into my "funk" playlist which is just music I play when I'm feeling a little down or low. One of my favorites is "Lies". Love the lyrics to the song. It literally went like this during the concert (and "Lies" was the first song they played): "Did she just say 'I can feed your dirty mind'??! Must download!" lol.
