american eagle hits and misses

As most of you know already, American Eagle had some pretty great Labor Day deals including 40% off everything and free shipping. Any chance I get to purchase AE stuff without having to pay for shipping, I definitely jump on it. Why you ask? Because they offer one of the best return policies. They allow you to purchase through their online store and return items in-store which is super. Gap, Old Navy and Banana (I believe) offers a similar return policy which is also awesome because you can only find most of their petite items online. Anyways, here are the hits and misses from that order.

Misses:

  • Aerie Softest T in Chalk in Small - $17.70 (orig. $29.50): WAYYY too big. I followed the size chart and that was a big fail. I was somehow under the impression that aerie stuff was smaller... but no. Returned.
  • AE Plaid Shirt in Red in Small - $23.70 (orig. $39.50): Again, this was WAYYY too big. I was actually really looking forward to this shirt too... I've been looking for a plaid shirt that was more of a boyfriend fit and I thought this would be it but it was too loose. I even went into the store and tried on an XS and it was still really really big. Returned.
Hits:
  • Aerie Printed Chiffon Tank in Cottage Grey in Small - $20.70 (orig. $34.50): Love this shirt. Haven't worn it yet but it is super cute. I'm hoping to wear it with a black bandeau underneath or with a nude tank underneath for work with a cardigan over it.
  • AE Paisley Scarf in Yellow (one size) - $11.70 (orig. $19.50): I don't really love this scarf but I'm going to keep it anyways because I need a scarf that will stand out. All my other scarves are very neutral (white, grey, etc). I do have a pink one that Tony gave me but that one is much more feminine. I wanted something that was more western (to pair with my new ankle boots! lol). They don't offer this product online anymore but I did see it in stores.
  • AE Side Zip Bootie in Brown (size 6) - $35.70 (orig. $59.50): Love the way this one fits! Who knew AE would be the go-to place for boots! I'm really looking forward to wearing these out especially ever since Wendy from Wendy's Lookbook did her video. Mine are not nude but I'm hoping these will double as a more rugged look as well.
  • AE Jegging in Blue (size 2 short... ha ha ha... too short :P) - $26.70 (orig. $44.50): Love how this fits! It actually feels like velvet! So soft!
  • AE Buckle Moto Boot (size 6) - $47.70 (orig. $79.50): Love this boot as well! I'm not sure how this one will fit with pants tucked in though since it was a little snug but the buckles are real so I can actually undo them adjust so that the pants will probably fit. I guess we'll see how that goes.

Hopefully I can wear some of this stuff to some functions soon so you can see what these items look like in person! Happy hump day!

week in review: 3 trips to disneyland + 4 days of work

Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday! Tuesdays are actually my Sundays since I've been only working 4 days a week and I usually get Monday, Tuesdays and Saturdays off (although my schedule is changing quite a bit next week because they're working me 5 days because they're renovating two CVS's in my area and they need someone to watch the pharmacy over night... which I kinda wanted to volunteer for but got scared that I would fall asleep and lose all the CII's lol).

Anyways, started off last Tuesday with a trip to Disneyland with Judy and Pearl.
no disney trip is complete without a tram picture
the newly renovated entrance to disney california adventure
bbq chicken pizza at disney california adventure
I'm usually not a huge fan of flat pizzas but this one was actually really good.

SOOOOO delicious!!

I worked Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and on Friday, I finally got to give flu shots! I actually gave out 3 flu shots! I was so nervous for the first one and I think the man could feel my hands shaking lol. Quite embarrassing. I was also finally hazed into being an official pharmacist as I set off the pharmacy alarm not once... but 3 times!!! Seriously I was kind of pissed at the staff pharmacist for not telling me that I had a whole 5 seconds to get out of the pharmacy. I even asked her "Oh is there anything I should know about the alarm?" Nope. Grrr. Oh well, it was something that was bound to happen.

Saturday was my second day at Disneyland except this time with Tony. It would be his first time on Star Tours AND Ariel's Undersea Adventure because the past couple times we went the lines were way too long. This time, Ariel was only a 5 minute wait and Star Tours was only a 30 minute wait! Score!

It's Halloween time at Disneyland!

On Sunday, I actually had to go into work but to my surprise, it was actually one of the extern's last day so she brought a cake from Portos for everyone! Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a good picture before they cut the cake but here's a picture. I mean, even with a slice gone, it still looks friggin delish!

Yesterday (Monday) I had the pleasure of joining Judy and her cousin Jenny on my 3rd trip in the last 7 days lol to Disneyland. I literally bumped into Mary Poppins 3 times and 3rd time was the charm because I finally got a picture! It was quite the jolly holiday with Mary :). I LOVE Mary Poppins. Can you believe that she even speaks with an English accent and has the single Mary Poppins dimple?!

Another thing I thought I'd mention is that we were waiting in line for Star Tours and out of nowhere we see Stormtroopers patrolling the waiting areas! They looked soooo intimidating and scared the bejeezees out of us and one even approached us (probably 'cause we looked like we were trying to act normal but were actually shakin' in our boots!). Our theory is that they are actually doing this for Halloween so maybe you'll get a chance to see one on your next visit!

Anywhos, that's all for now! I have a bunch of errands to run before going back to work tomorrow. I'm so happy that I'll actually have both Saturday AND Sunday off! I've worked the last few Sundays and although it's a less busy day to work, it also cuts into quality Tony time which is no bueno lol. But now that it's football season I'm afraid I'll be suffering the wrath of the roller coaster ride of football wins/losses.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

nothing to wear!

I think every female faces that moment where they stare at their open closet and think "Gosh, why can't I find a single thing I want to wear?!" I find it especially frustrating because when I look at my spending habits, a good chunk of my money goes towards clothes/shoes/bags (it's a weakness!) yet I still can't find anything to wear :(. Recently I've had a tad more time to actually read the blog posts instead of just looking through pictures and I came across a great post from Jean of ExtraPetite called Keeping a Streamlined Wardrobe. It was so helpful that I thought I'd share it with ya'lls!

As I've stated in my previous posts, I've been trying to curb my spending in an attempt to not only pay off my loans but also save up for an emergency fund. The funny thing is I haven't even gotten my first official paycheck yet! lol. CVS recently went from weekly paychecks to biweekly paychecks and it really feels like forever before you get paid :/. I just really wanted to have all my spreadsheets prepared so that I wouldn't be bombarded when I get that first paycheck. But I made a similar spreadsheet to Jean's and I'm finding it so useful to organize my clothes that I've started going through my old receipts just to see what I bought, what I actually wear and what I shouldn't have bought to begin with. Here's what my spreadsheet looks like for the month of September so far. (ps. Don't judge me for all the spending that I've already done and the first week of September isn't even over yet! I couldn't resist all the Labor Day sales!!).

Hope you guys find this useful! Happy Hump Day! Almost to the weekend folks! Let's keep chugging along!

for the foodies

So I recently posted about trying the Lazy Ox Canteen in Downtown LA and it was actually featured on a post called "Grub Guide: Where and What to Eat in Downtown LA" on Refinery29! I feel extra schpecials right now lol. There are definitely a few places I'd like to try. Foodie adventures continues...

labor day shopping at american eagle

gorgeous

paper crown spring 2012 collection preview
Ahhhh... what a beaut! If only I had something to wear this bad boy to. I love how the rouching would totally hide my pooch and the lacy back... well you'd definitely be bringing sexy back (my lame sense of humor is making its comeback! yay!).

So I recently subscribed to Lauren Conrad's site, which is actually quite extensive, to my surprise. I didn't realize that besides her LC Lauren Conrad line at Kohl's, she also has another line called Paper Crown sold at Nordy's and other online boutiques. The line itself is sleek, simple, and sophisticated which is perfect for this transition from "college kid" to "working woman" that I think many of us are going through. Although my current budget won't allow me to purchase any of the items I'm currently coveting from the collection, my Forever 21 look-a-likes will have to do for now.

I've been subscribed for the last couple of days and her posts are actually quite useful. Today's post was her "Working Girl's Style Staples: Top Ten" which is exactly what I've been looking for to transform my "kiddie" wardrobe into something more timeless. Her top 10 list included the following:

  1. White Button Down Shirt - check!
  2. Black Pants - check!
  3. Black Pumps - check!
  4. Neutral Sweater - haven't pull out my fall/winter sweaters yet but I don't believe I have one yet.
  5. Simple Flats - just bought some flats from Gap!
  6. Long Sleeve Silk Blouse - still looking for one... although I did buy a 3/4 sleeve black one this weekend :/
  7. Basic Blazer - check!
  8. Black Tights - check!
  9. Black Tote Bag - I think a Longchamp bag is a good substitute :)
  10. Colored Silk Crepe Top - (going to sound like a complete dozo here but crepe top just makes me think of food lol so I definitely don't have one of these lol)
Besides the blazer and the pumps (even though I just bought a blazer this weekend :-x), all other items would work well in the pharmacy (that's not to say you can't wear the blazer and pumps outside of the pharmacy :D hehe). Maybe I should work on a post of Top 10 items for the fashionista pharmacist! lol. I'm sure there's already something like that out there.

Anywhos, I'm trying to work on a few other posts including one on the cruise and my Labor Day fashion haul. Hope everyone had a fabulous Labor Day! Now I will go and enjoy the rest of my day off at Disneyland with my lovely ladies! It's a hard life... I know :P

september week 1

the help
On Tuesday August 30th, I went to watch The Help with Judy. Such a great movie! I'd highly recommend it. Prepare for sniffles. The whole theatre was sniffling so you know that means I was like bawling. I even heard this guy behind us saying it was a good movie hahaha. Emma Stone was so good too! Go see it... now! lol

Labor Day weekend started early on Friday. I drove down to San Diego which took so friggin long! I totally forgot that it was Labor Day weekend but I had a whole 4 hours of reminders in the form of wanting to pull my hair out and stab myself to death. I had to go get Starbucks as soon as I got there just to stay awake. We went to eat at Miami Grille... again :). Jamaican jerk chicken. Enough said. So. So. Good. Their chop chops are also super good. *drools*

After dinner we went to Children's Pool in La Jolla and checked out the beached seals lol. They looked like slugs on the sand especially when they started moving. I was pretty beat after being stuck in traffic all day so we decided to go home and watch a movie. We ended up watching Bad Teacher which was somewhat funny but oh gahd... such a horrible movie! I don't think I've ever said that about a movie but this one was like one of those "I can never get back those 2 hours in my life!" lol.

Jake's Del Mar - view from outside the restaurant
Saturday morning we had a triple date planned with Tony's friends at Jake's Del Mar (Yelp). The restaurant itself is super nice and their food is pretty good. Tony and I actually went here on our first date in San Diego :) I would say my only complaint is that their menu is very small. I got the salmon and Tony got the sea bass. We also got the Ahi Poke Roll Appetizer and Calamari which were delish. I also got a Sandy's Beach Tea which is just ice tea, lemonade and vodka.

Jake's Del Mar - our view from inside the restaurant
After lunch we went shopping! Yay! Finally got some deals at Forever 21. Hopefully I'll get to showcase them soon! Also got some ballet flats from Gap! They're super comfortable but hopefully they won't kill my feet at work. I also found some cute stuff at American Eagle online since they're having their 40% off sale + free shipping! Too many Labor Day sales! ahh!

Hope everyone's Labor Day weekends are going great! I just got home from work not too long ago but now I have 2 days off :). It's like an interrupted 4 day weekend. Yay for holiday pay!
