Sunday Sounds: Coachella 2014 Series - BANKS

When someone remakes a classic like Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody" and gets praised for her rendition, it's a pretty high compliment. Introducing BANKS. Listen to her rendition below and judge for yourself. It is a bit different but also amazing. She looks like a cross between Sara Bareilles and Natalie Portman (aka beautiful lol) and sounds like what Sara Bareilles would sound like if she decided to make Indie music. Her music is what I would put into my "Funk" playlist which is just a bunch of songs that I would play when I'm feeling in funky mood (i.e. can't decide what to listen to). I can just imagine "This is What It Feels Like" being played during the club scene in the Matrix when Neo meets Trinity for the first time.

Product Rave: J. Crew Campbell Capri in Stretch Cotton

HO-MAH-GAHD.

All you shorties out there looking for work pants, look no further than these J.Crew Campbell Capris in Stretch Cotton. I'm 5 feet and 1/2 an inch, 26 in. waist, and 28 in. inseam. These capris fit me like regular pants without alterations in terms of the length. In the thigh and waist area, they literally fit me LIKE A GLOVE. I went in specifically to try these pants on so originally when I went into J. Crew, I picked up the size 2 and the size 4. WAY too loose. Then the sales associate, Cindy, at Fashion Valley, who was helping me said to pick up the 00 because it stretches out and to get a size smaller. I kind of looked at her disbelievingly because I know my body and I know that I might look tiny but trust, pants never look right on me. They either fit me in the waist but the thighs could fit a few chickens or it fits me in the thighs but the waist cannot be buttoned. Also, I haven't fit into a 00 since the college years when I was super depressed and only ate one meal a day but luckily for vanity sizing, a 26 in the waist is apparently a 00 at J. Crew lol. Anywhos! It also has real front pockets and back pockets and it's also machine washable (I don't buy anything that isn't 'cause honestly... "ain't nobody got time fo that!"). I mean the price isn't what I usually spend on work pants but lately I've been trying to dress for the job I want and not the one I have. I will definitely update you guys on how these pants hold up in the wash and multiple wears but if I end up loving them, I'm definitely getting more.

Nordstrom Triple Points Event - Beauty Wish-List

So I've been accumulating a list of random products (mostly beauty) that I'm waiting to purchase when Nordstrom has their Triple Points Event (which is actually going on right now! March 19th-23rd). I have a problem with buying things immediately because most of the time when I want something, I want to use it for an immediate problem. However, this is mostly a list of "YouTube made me do it" products that I've heard so much about but because they are high end, I can't bring myself to drop a few benjamins to try them out.

1. Chrisian Dior - Creme de Rose ($27.00)

2. Bobbi Brown - Blush in Apricot

3. Bobbi Brown - Sheer Lip Color in Rosy ($25.00)

4. Dior - 'Addict Lip Glow' Color Reviver Balm ($32.00)

5. NARS - Creamy Concealer ($29.00)

6. The Balm - Mary Lou-minizer ($24.00), Blush in Frat Boy ($21.00)

7. M.A.C. 217 Blending Brush ($24.00)

Also, if you purchase these items online with your Nordstrom card, you can go through Ebates and get 3% cash back! No fees. You just click on a link on the Ebates website and go about your purchasing as usual. Ebates will track whether you purchase anything and 3% cash back of your final purchase goes back into you pockets in the form of a check! Please use my referral link below if you check them out! I've been using them for years and every few months I get a check in the mail for $10-$20 and I rarely purchase anything online so for those of you who shop online a lot, you'll be making bank!

Ebates Coupons and Cash Back

So thanks to Holly who posted about this on Instagram, I totally want this California Dogeared Necklace. I have the one from Jewelmint but this one is daintier and who doesn't love dainty lol.

Sunday Sounds: Coachella 2014 Series - HAIM

Top of the morning to ya'lls. Coming to you this Sunday morning with yet another Coachella artist. This week I'm featuring HAIM. After the summer festival season ended, there was speculation that HAIM would be a performer in this year's Coachella. Their sound is unique and the three ladies remind me of my Hanson days. Here are a couple of favorites. Check them out on their Soundcloud page.

February 2014: Month in Review Part 2

Feb. 13th:
Made some Valentine's Day treats for my coworkers. I only put good candies in my goodie bags. Quality over quantity aight?!

Feb 15th:
Whenever we get up a little on the early side, I like to try out new brunch places because lez-be-honest ya'lls, brunch is the best meal of the day lol. Anywhos, we decided to try out Claire's on Cedros in Solana Beach (think the Laguna Beach of San Diego). One of my favorite places to brunch is at Peach Cafe and this place has a similar feel except quite a bit more crowded. I tried the Chai latte which tastes similar to the Peach Cafe Chai latte so I'm like "score!". The pancakes were super bomb also.

After a tasty brunch, we headed to Rancho Santa Fe for some thrift shopping. Didn't find anything but we decided to frolick in the area and found a little coffee shop with this mug on display. My sentiments exactly lol.

And then when we were driving home we saw this crazy cat...

One of my friends was celebrating a birthday so we headed over to her house for some fun times.

making smores in the brand new fireplace! wuddup!

Feb. 16th:
Next morning, we woke up early again and headed out to grab some pho at Bolsa. I want to say this place uses MSG because dayam the pho here tastes just like home in the SGV lol. And I mean that in the best possible way because I don't want none of that tasteless MSG-free pho lol.

the morning after pho

A few people at the party recommended this sandwich place in Poway so we went to check it out. Are lobster rolls supposed to be cold?? I've never had one before and this one was seriously cold when we got it and I was just quite confused. I wasn't too impressed by the foods to be honest. Maybe they were having an off night?

Feb. 21st:
After a long week of work, it was time to celebrate! Some friends were in town for a day trip and we decided to make a stop at Polite Provisions. This was our 2nd time here. They have cocktails on draft. They actually don't sell any food at Polite Provisions but you can order food at Soda & Swine and have them bring it over. It was quite crowded but the turnaround is pretty quick but as the night drags on, people are pretty much not moving at all.

Feb 22nd-28th:
Worked for the rest of the month.

And that's February folks! I feel pretty ahead!
I started doing some vlogging (just for practice for now but hopefully I'll get better at it for all our upcoming trips!) but I haven't gotten time to edit (seriously takes forever!) so give me some time.

Sunday Sounds: Coachella 2014 Series - The 1975

This week I'm featuring The 1975. So I first heard about this group through Missglamorazzi. She was talking about how much she loved The xx and she also mentioned that she had been obsessing over 1975. Now, the first time I listened to them I wasn't that obsessed. However, I guess repetition works (har har Tanya!) because now I really like a few of their songs. Here are some of my favorites.

Chocolate (probably their most popular song)

Sex

Settle Down
(parts of the song sound like Panic! at the Disco's lead singer... like the chorus)

Bonus: Phantogram - Fall in Love
I know they aren't playing Coachella but just because I'm completely infatuated with this song, I'm going to add it in. They've started playing it on the radio and I just totally jam out to it in the car (yup, I'm that crazy chick in the car dancing away lol).

Sunday Sounds: Coachella 2014 Series - The Naked and Famous

Sorry I've been missing the past couple of weeks. I was super ahead and then I got into a rut of listening to super old stuff and not Coachella related. Now I'm back and I can't believe Coachella is a little over a month away! Crazy! Anywhos, on to the music!

One of my favorite stations to listen to on Pandora is the Chvrches station. I've found so many good artists through that station including today's Sunday Sounds Coachella artist, The Naked and Famous. I'm pretty sure you've heard these tunes somewhere before. Good stuff I tell ya, good stuff. When I first heard them, I kept thinking they were Passion Pit (who was at Coachella in 2013) but I can kind of tell the difference now lol. Again, I'll let the music speak for itself.

Young Blood (one of my absolute favorites):

Punching in a Dream:

February 2014: Month in Review Part 1

Feb. 1st-2nd:
Started off the month with work and then some fun times at Baja Betty's with the gals. Once in awhile it's good to get away from the men lol.

these are cocksucker shots ;) (aka a blowjob)

We walked around Hillcrest afterwards and then headed over to a friend's house for his birthday. After that, we turned in for the night. The next day we went out with some friends to Ramen Yamadaya after work.

Feb. 3rd-4th:
Work

Feb. 5th:
Taking a break from work to have lunch with my coworker. Trying to eat healthy.

Feb. 6th-7th:
Work

Feb. 8th:
On Saturday we headed to the Arboretum in Arcadia for some frolicking and picture-whoring.

we are one big family :) happy birthday to the bestest bestie judy :)

fab5 plus bertha in a hut

fab5 plus berta. love these kids

After frolicking, we went to Guppy House and ate some yummy food. Half of us were sick and the other half had other plans so we headed our separate ways. Tony's friend's birthday was also being celebrated that weekend so we got ready to head out to Le Ka Restaurant and Lounge in DTLA.

put the words belgium and bruin in the same drink and i've got my paws all over it! bruin for life!

the girls. keepin it classy ladies :)

mussels, squid ink fettuccine, tomato broth, clams, puttanesca

the guys snapped the bottom picture of us. #gottainstagramthatshiz!

We met up with some other peeps at Seven Grand for some drinks. If you ever go to this place you have to go all the way to the back where they have these deer-looking things hanging (like in a hunting lodge). They aren't deers though, they're actually rabbits with antlers (fake ones of course)! I totally want them for my future home!

It got pretty crowded when we decided to leave to get some maracons at Bottega Louie.

Feb 9th:
Went to dim sum with the parents and then on our way home we decided to pick up some Kyochon wings at the Cerritos mall. We also picked up these cute mugs! It was hilarious because when we were at the Disney store the girl that was helping to check out kept saying "Oh we've been out of Eva for a long time..." "I really like the Eva mug" lol. I took all my energy and power not to correct her haha.

wall-e and eve!

dim sum with the parents and my dad captures what tony and i do every day lol

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Let's start off the month of March right!
Birthmonth Madness here is happening all month long!
